Founder walking a path through dense forest

    About Symphos

    About Symphos

Businesses evolve continuously. Founders pursue opportunities, add services, hire people, introduce systems and adjust responsibilities as the company grows. Over time, the structure of the business can fall out of alignment with its size, complexity and ambitions.

Symphos helps founders and leadership teams design the enterprise for its next stage. We work across strategy, organizational structure, operations, financial architecture, technology, governance and commercial systems, with a focus on how these elements work together to support performance, scalability and enterprise value.

This approach is called Enterprise Value Architecture™.

    Jason Martin, Founder of Symphos

    Why I Built Symphos

I'm Jason Martin, founder of Symphos. I have spent more than 15 years working across management consulting, organizational transformation, research commercialization, technology ventures and founder-led businesses. Throughout that career, I have worked on many versions of the same challenge: translating strategy and ambition into an organization that can execute consistently and grow beyond its dependence on a small number of people.

At KWI Communications, I built and commercialized a change-management consulting practice and generated more than $2 million in advisory business. My work included transformation engagements with organizations such as Cox Communications, Southern Company and Chick-fil-A, where I worked across strategy, organizational change, communications and execution.

I later co-founded Formless, a venture-backed technology company, serving as COO and later CEO. My responsibilities included strategy, operations, fundraising, product, go-to-market, partnerships and organizational development. Alongside my co-founder, I helped raise approximately $2.4 million in venture capital.

Operating a company added an important dimension to my consulting experience. I was making decisions about capital, people, product, priorities and growth with limited resources and incomplete information. I saw firsthand how closely strategy, operations, technology, organizational structure and finance affect one another.

Today, I also work directly with entrepreneurs as an Entrepreneur in Residence and module lead at Oneday, advising founders on business models, positioning, technology, operations and growth. Across these different environments, I have developed a practical view of the business as an interconnected system. That perspective became the foundation for Symphos.

    Enterprise Value Architecture™

Enterprise Value Architecture™ is the framework Symphos uses to understand and design the systems that shape business performance and enterprise value.

The work begins with the business itself: how it creates value, how revenue is generated, how decisions are made, where responsibilities sit, how information moves, how capital is allocated and where the organization depends heavily on individual people or informal processes.

From there, we develop an enterprise architecture appropriate to the company's objectives. Depending on the situation, that may involve organizational design, governance, operating processes, financial reporting, commercial systems, technology, leadership structure, capital planning or transaction readiness.

The purpose is to create greater clarity around how the enterprise works and give leadership a practical structure for improving it.

    The Work in Practice

A recent Symphos engagement involved a founder-led life-safety and security services business navigating a major ownership transition. The company had meaningful revenue, established customer relationships, deep technical expertise and several distinct sources of economic value. Much of the business had developed around the founder, with informal legal and financial structures, concentrated institutional knowledge, limited management systems and significant owner involvement in day-to-day operations.

Symphos began by mapping the existing enterprise, including ownership, responsibilities, revenue streams, assets, customer relationships, systems, fund flows and operating dependencies. That assessment became the basis for a future-state enterprise design.

The resulting architecture included a holding-company and operating-company structure, defined governance and decision rights, centralized shared services, financial visibility by business line, structured fund flows and capital allocation, CRM and management systems, leadership requirements and a phased implementation roadmap.

The engagement also examined the economics of the company's life-safety installation and security-monitoring activities. Installation projects generate project revenue and establish customer relationships, while monitoring services can extend those relationships through recurring contracts. Structuring the business around those distinct economic engines created clearer financial visibility and a more deliberate path for developing recurring revenue.

The resulting plan gave ownership a structured path for reducing founder dependency, strengthening management infrastructure, improving financial visibility and increasing the transferability of the enterprise. It also supported decisions around growth, outside capital, leadership transition and a potential future transaction.

    Where Symphos Works

Symphos works with businesses at consequential transition points. These can include rapid growth, increasing organizational complexity, founder dependency, ownership or leadership transition, preparation for investment or acquisition, succession planning, technology transformation and the introduction of AI into existing operating models.

These situations often require decisions across several parts of the enterprise at the same time. Symphos provides a structured way to assess those dependencies, design the future state and translate it into an implementation plan.
